VCH Mental Health & Substance Use Family Advisory Committees
Family advisory committees represent the diverse voice of families within Mental Health and Substance Use Services, with the objective of improving the care experience.
Within each of Vancouver Coastal Health’s (VCH) geographic Communities of Care, Family Advisory Committees facilitate the development and maintenance of a culture that supports family involvement, ensure that mental health and substance use service delivery reflects best practices of and family-centred care, and support the ongoing development of a culture of recovery in mental health and substance use services.
Family Advisory Committees (FACs) are supported by Family Support Involvement Coordinators, local support staff, as well as the Community Engagement team. Family support and involvement for Mental Health & Substance Use services at VCH is guided by the family involvement policy below.

Sea to Sky Mental Health & Substance Use Services Family Advisory Committee
Sea to Sky Family Advisory Committee is just getting started, and they are seeking members! The role of the Sea to Sky FAC is to represent the diverse voices of families within Sea to Sky Mental Health and Substance Use Services. The FAC meets once a month to discuss how to improve services for families and consumers, and to learn about developments in services through guest speakers and information-sharing. North Shore Mental Health & Substance Use Services Family Advisory Committee
The North Shore FAC has helped to create this useful webpage for families of loved ones with mental health and substance use issues. They have also created a brochure called “What Families Need to Know During a Psychiatric Emergency” with information to assist family members, friends and other care providers of clients entering the Psychiatric Emergency Department on the North Shore.
